The Semantic Web PhD Student Network for Berlin and Brandenburg was founded in September 2004 at the Free University of Berlin by the workgroup Networked Information Systems. The basic concept of the network is to create a solid yet informal and flexible space in which PhD students whose research interests cover the Semantic Web can exchange their ideas and identify and exploit synergies.
Network members shall have the opportunity through bimonthly informal face-to-face meetings to present the latest progress in their doctoral research and open their work up to discussion. The network shall help the students make their research intentions more concrete and gain advice on the completeness of their achieved work. Presenting their own work to a peer group also constitutes a good opportunity for them to practise the defence of their dissertation.
